Gemologist, appraiser, antique jewelry expert, author, and philanthropist, loannis Alexandris has been fascinated by the world of jewelry since he was twelve years old after visiting an exhibition of fine jewels in London. Following studies in business management administration, he went on to learn everything he could about gemstones and jewelry at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in southern California.
This was followed by courses on antique jewelry at Sotheby’s and work at Christies in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1995, he has visited nearly all the world’s major museums housing jewelry collections, while purchasing and selling high-end antique pieces for his many discerning clients. He has traded many important historical pieces, many formerly owned by royal families, with several reaching record prices.
In 2013, he trademarked the name GEMOLITHOS and the GEMOLITHOS Group, with offices in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong. GEMOLITHOS is currently copyrighted in 80 countries globally. In addition to specializing in trading antique jewels, loannis has found time to design and produce a line of unique jewels, featuring some of the world’s finest gemstones and diamonds. He also shares his knowledge by authoring many articles on the most important eras of antique jewelry and by giving presentations on antique jewels and gems at various congresses, auction houses, television shows, and private groups around the world. He is a Member of the Directors Circle at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as well as a Supporter of the British Museum. He also sits on the Boards of a number of international organizations.
loannis believes in giving back, and financially helps African students, including paying their university studies. Two have already received their Bachelor’s degree and one of the girls is working on her Master’s. He provides not only funds but encouragement and guidance to help them succeed in their lives and careers.
